South American welterweight champion, former Latino champion and rising prospect Luis “Lucho” Verón, will face former olympic medalist and undefeated Taras Shelestyuk, in a highly expected clash between top welterweights, scheduled to ten rounds, at one of the main events of an exciting boxing night this Friday night at the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum, in Shreveport, Louisiana, USA, promoted by Banner Promotions, and a new challenge for Argentina Boxing Promotions, of Mario Margossian, which will be televised live on Showtime for the USA and TyC Sports, for Argentina and the whole American continent.

In a highly expected clash of top prospects, Verón (18-1-2, 9 KOs), 27 years old, from José León Suárez, Buenos Aires, current # 4 of the Argentinean welterweight ranking, who defended four times his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Latino welterweight title defeating fellowmen Gabriel Ledesma, Daniel Aquino, Jonathan Eniz, Adolfo Moreschi, and a draw against Maximiliano Verón, became # 4 of the WBO welterweight world ranking, before his only loss on November 9th against Englishman Michael McKinson on the cards in London, England, but comes after destroying Daniel Aquino in only two rounds in a rematch on January 17th in Mar del Plata, Argentina, ready for his US debut. Now, he will face Shelestyuk (17-0, 10 KOs), 34, from Makeyevka, Ukraine, but living in Los Angeles, California, bronze medalist in London 2012, former World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental and WBO North American Boxing Organization (NABO) welterweight champion, who has beat Juan Rodríguez Jr., Russian Aslanbek Kozaev, Jaime Herrera, Mexican Jesús Álvarez, and comes after last March 9th dominating Mexican Ángel Martínez by unanimous decision in Orange, California.

“I am very happy and motivated for this opportunity, and for my pro debut in the USA. After my fight in London, we corrected several aspects and now I feel more mature. I have been training really hard with my team. You will see a different Verón”, said “Lucho”.

“After my rematch with Aquino on the very next day I was already training for this bout. We knew about this possibility and luckily it has happened. Shelestyuk is a very strong, complicated and talented fighter, and who has a strong amateur background, but I trust my skills and I am confident I can get the victory. It’s going to be a great fight”, he added.

With confidence, he went on: “Since I started boxing I dreamted of fighing in the USA. I thank my manager and promoter, Mario Margossian, for getting it to me. I know I will have a tough opponent but I am ready. I am going there to make a statement and with only one objective: to win”.
