
Argentinian boxing continues with an action packed night filled with champions, big names and promising prospects brought by Argentina Boxing Promotions on TyC Sports. South American middleweight champion, Argentinian rising prospect Lucas “El Tornado” Bastida, will face tough puncher Sergio “Checho” López, trying to defend for the first time his crown, at the main event of an exciting boxing night on Friday, December 11th, at the Microestadio Municipal de Garín, in Garín, Buenos Aires, Argentina, promoted by Argentina Boxing Promotions, of Mario Margossian, which will be televised live on TyC Sports, to Argentina, the United States and the whole continent, 11 p.m. Argentina, 9 p.m. USA (ET).
In the co main event of the evening, in a rematch, South American and World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino cruiserweight champion, two-time olympian and unbeaten Argentinian prospect Yamil Peralta, will face Gustavo “El Volcán” Schmitt, trying to defend for the seond time his South American belt.
This will be the fourth event of the awaited return of boxing on Argentinian soil since the irruption of the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, and will be in charge of the same company that promoted the first three shows of the return, on October 30th and November 13th and 28th, in Luis Guillón, Buenos Aires, as well as the last boxing show in the country pre pandemic, on March 13th in Buenos Aires. After months of hard and silent work the sport has its long-expected resumption, in another show behind closed doors for the public, with the strictest security controls following the health protocols issued by national and municipal health authorities, as well as the Argentinian Boxing Federation.
On Thursday afternoon, all of the participants were tested for the Coronavirus COVID-19, in a strict control that took place at the Argentinian Boxing Federation, and all of the results turned out negative, leaving everyone ready to fight. After that, it was time for the weigh in ceremony.
In what is expected to be an action packed fight, Bastida (14-1, 7 KOs), 23 years old, from Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, #1 of the Argentinean middleweight ranking, will look to shine again. After defeating every opponent in his country -only losing after a cut- including Nicolás Verón, Sergio Paysse, Cristian Zárate, Dominican Félix Vargas, and Ezequiel Romero, he will try to defend for the first time the title he conquered after annihilating Gonzalo Chaparro in less than one round on January 11th in Mar del Plata, and comes after dominating Marcelo Bzowski by a wide unanimous decision on November 13th in Luis Guillón. Now he will face López (12-3, 9 KOs), 30, from Ezeiza, Buenos Aires, who has beaten important names such as Rodrigo Maizares and Dominican Henrri Polanco, and after losing to Javier Maciel recovered over Guillermo Paz, but comes after being stopped by Jonathan Sánchez in the third chapter on February 2nd, 2019, in Necochea, Buenos Aires, and aims for his first belt.
Both fighters made the weight on the scales, leaving everything ready for their bout. Bastida weighed 154.5 lbs., and López weighed 154.8 lbs.
PERALTA-SCHMITT, THE CO MAIN EVENT
In the co main event, South American and WBC Latino cruiserweight champion, two-time olympian and unbeaten Argentinian prospect Yamil Peralta (7-0, 2 KOs), will face Gustavo “El Volcán” Schmitt (6-11-1, 1 KO), trying to defend for the seond time his South American belt.
Peralta weighed 199.8 lbs., and Schmitt weighed 197.3 lbs.
Peralta, 29 years old, from Del Viso, Buenos Aires, Argentinean representative in London 2012 -where he reached quarter finals- and Rio de Janeiro 2016, #1 of the Argentinean cruiserweight ranking and #20 WBC, who on May 11th, 2019, dethroned Marcos Aumada by unanimous decision to conquer his WBC Latino belt that after beating Esteban López he defended in the rematch over Aumada, will put on the line the South American crown he obtained on February 1st when he destroyed Darío Balmaceda by a strong technical knock out in the ninth round, and that he defended after dominating Marcos Karalitzky by a wide unanimous decision on October 30th in Luis Guillón. Now he will face Schmitt, from Florencio Varela, Buenos Aires, #8 of the Argentinean cruiserweight ranking, who after some losses has recovered and has defeated important names such us Patricio Pitto and Nicolás Argañaraz, and comes after beating multiple Latino and South American champion Gonzalo Basile by unanimous decision on October 30th.
MELIÁN-ROCHA AND MORE
Beyond the main fights, a heated card is being prepared to complete the night. Two-time olympian and former Argentinian and NABA champion, Alberto “Impacto” Melián (6-2, 4 KOs), will face Martín “El Negro” Rocha (5-6, 1 KO), in a bout in super featherweight division, scheduled to eight rounds.
Melián weighed 126.6 lbs., and Rocha weighed 125.6 lbs.
In his return to the country, Melián, 30, from Villa Dolores, Córdoba, based in Buenos Aires, Argentinean representative in London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016, former Argentinian and NABA super bantamweight champion, comes after five bouts in the USA, and will meet Rocha, 23, from San Miguel, Buenos Aires, who aims for his biggest success.
In another great attraction of the evening, in welterweight division, undefeated prospect Mariano Sandoval (6-0, 3 KOs), from San Martín, Buenos Aires, takes on Leandro “Huracán” Fonseca (2-0-1, 1 KO), from Buenos Aires, in a bout scheduled to four rounds.
Sandoval weighed 146.2 lbs., and Fonseca weighed 146.8 lbs.
Finally, in welterweight division, undefeated prospect Cristian “Azteca” Ayala (3-0-1, 1 KO), from Misiones, based in San Miguel, Buenos Aires, faces Miguel Scaringi (5-1, 3 KOs), from Florencio Varela, Buenos Aires, in a bout scheduled to four or six rounds.
Ayala weighed 145.3 lbs., and Scaringi weighed 145.9 lbs.
