Cóceres and Saunders face to face in LA

World Boxing Organization (WBO) Latino and World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedebol middleweight champion, unbeaten prospect Marcelo “El Terrible” Cóceres, will face two time world champion, undefeated Billy Joe “Superb” Saunders, trying to dethrone him from the WBO World super middleweight title, at one of the main events of an exciting boxing night on Saturday, November 9th, at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California, United States of America, promoted by Matchroom Boxing, and a new challenge for Argentina Boxing Promotions, of Mario Margossian, which will be televised live on TyC Sports and Space, for Argentina and the whole American continent, and DAZN for the US.

In the most important fight of his career, Cóceres (28-0-1, 15 KOs), 28 years old, from Villaguay, Entre Ríos, Argentina, current # 10 of the WBO super middleweight world ranking, former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Latino junior middleweight and World Boxing Council (WBC) Latino middleweight champion, comes after last September 21st when he dominated countryman Germán Peralta by unanimous decision to conquer the WBA Fedebol belt in Buenos Aires. Now he will face Saunders (28-0, 13 KOs), 30, from Welwyn Garden City, England, former WBO World middleweight champion, as well as silver olympic medalist, former British, Commonwealth, European and International middleweight monarch, who will aim to defend for the first time the belt he obtained on May 18th when he defeated German Shefat Isufi by unanimous decision in Stevenage, England.

On Thursday afternoon, they met for the first time at the press conference held at the TAO Hollywood restaurant, and gave their thougts about their bouts.

“I want to thank everybody for the way you’ve been since we arrived. I feel great and really strong. This chance comes to me in my best moment. After my last fight I didn’t stop training, so on Saturday you will see me better than ever”, indicated Cóceres.

“As I have said before, this is the opportunity I was waiting for. I thank my manager and promoter Mario Margossian for getting it for me. You will see a different Cóceres, and I trust I can win”, he continued.

With confidence, he went on. “I know what I will be facing. A great opponent, two time world champion and one of the most talented of the planet. But I have been dreaming of a chance like this my entire life, and I’m not planning on waisting it. I trust my skills and I will prove I belong to this level. On Saturday is the day to prove it. I came to win. And I will do everything to take that belt me”, he ended.

After that, the champion took the micropone: “I am very happy to fight in America for the first time. It’s the first step. I want the big fights, but I have this challenge first and I am not overlooking it. On Saturday we will have a great fight”.

“There’s going to be a packed venue, and I know what to do. I need to showcase some skills in America, no one really knows me here but you will do after Saturday night. No disrespect to my opponent, I’m here to put a showcase on to show how levels are made”, he continued.

“I’m after all the big names, they’ve been hiding too long. I’m a two-weight champion and I’m really hoping to put on good performance for the American crowd”, he concluded.


The event will have the bout between two of the most popular celebrities of the planet. The worldwide famous YouTubers, English Olajide “KSI” Olatunji and American Logan Paul, who will face each other in a matchup in cruiserweight division scheduled to six rounds, in what will be their pro debut and a rematch after they met as amateurs, and a clash of social media stars that has aroused an unprecedented interest.
